City employs high school students during summer

The city of San Antonio is working with 71 high schools to help students gain real-world work experience as part of the Summer Youth Employment Program.

The idea is to give young students the opportunity to explore career options within the city and allow them to begin building their resume.

Participants go through the complete hiring process, which includes filing out an application and hiring paperwork, doing interviews, and training.

Students have 26 departments to choose from, depending on their field of interest, including planning and community development, arts and culture, aviation, and animal care services.

The city also partnered with SA Works to provide students with an intern handbook and skills such as resume writing and interviewing techniques.
