New law allows Texans to openly carry holstered handguns

The state’s new Open Carry law takes effect two weeks from today.

Licensed individuals will be able to openly carry a handgun in the same places that allow concealed handguns, with some exceptions. Unconcealed handguns, loaded or unloaded, must be carried in a shoulder or belt holster.

The law allows business owners the option to allow all guns, only allow concealed carry, or ban all guns on their premises.
