Barn cat program is helping locals in need of natural pest control

Email share

There is an affordable and green solution for locals dealing with vermin.

The city's Animal Care Services has a free Barn Cat program that places semi-feral and feral cats on farms or ranches as a means of natural pest control.

Officials say the technique helps avoid expensive treatments and toxic chemicals by getting rid of vermin in a natural way. The cats in the program are vaccinated, sterilized and ear tipped before placement.
