Hi Friends!

Thank you for joining us to learn about health and well-being with KLRN’s The Healthy Kids Project! Thank you to The San Antonio Medical Foundation for their foundational support of The Healthy Kids Project, and thank you to Health Confianza & Wellness Cultura for their additional support.

Friends, taking care of our hearts can be easy and fun. Healthy habits help us to have healthy hearts. For instance, we can find exercises that we enjoy and make time to do them regularly. Do you love to walk, jog, or run? Start or wind down your day (or both), with a refreshing stroll.  Make a delicious heart healthy snack like Family Fun Du! Also, make time for relaxation and sufficient sleep to reduce stress. As always, drink water frequently throughout the day. These small steps can make a positive difference towards our heart health.

Here are some “Points to Ponder” from The Healthy Kids Project:

  1. Fruits and vegetables give your body vitamins, minerals, and fiber that you need to fight diseases. They are also a natural source of energy.
  2. Fruits and vegetables are low in salt and fat, and have no added sugar.
  3. Eating fruits and vegetables helps your body build stronger bones and teeth.
  4. Oranges and apples give your body lots of vitamin C. Vitamin C helps keep you from getting sick and helps you to heal when you are sick.
  5. Green beans and broccoli give your body lots of magnesium, which helps your muscles and bones.
  6. Potatoes are a great source for potassium, vitamin C, and fiber.
  7. Avocados are a fruit and not a vegetable. Avocados have the highest protein content of any fruit.
  8. Apples float in water because they are 25% air!
  9. In order to get all of the necessary vitamins and nutrients that your body needs, eat a variety of different colored fruits and vegetables.
