The Healthy Kids Project - Being Kind to Ourselves

Email share

Hi Friends!

Thank you for joining us to learn about health and well-being with KLRN’s The Healthy Kids Project! Thank you to The San Antonio Medical Foundation for their foundational support of The Healthy Kids Project, and thank you to Health Confianza & Wellness Cultura for their additional support.

Friends, on our journey towards good health, sometimes we might make a few mistakes, like eating too many sugary snacks. Sugary snacks like cookies and candy, or very salty snacks like chips, are a treat to enjoy once in a while, but not every day. Because there is more sugar and salt in these foods than our bodies need, we wind up not feeling very good, like poor Russet and Yukon in Sugar: Master of Disguise | The Healthy Kids Project and The Couch Potato Blues | The Healthy Kids Project. That being said, good health is not about perfection. Check out SP’s wise words of advice in this video: Not About Perfection | The Healthy Kids Project. We all make mistakes. We can make our next choice a healthy choice. Remember, you are the one and only you. You are special and you have value, so please remember to be kind to yourself. We’re all on this journey together.

Here are some “Points to Ponder” from The Healthy Kids Project:

1. Success does not happen without some failure. There is a sequence of steps to every success. For example: Were you able to read when you first tried? First you learned each letter of the alphabet, next you learned the sounds that each letter makes, then you learned to “sound out” some small words by putting these sounds together, etc.

2. Think about other skills (both physical and mental) that you have learned. Examples might include (but are not limited to); skipping, memorizing a song, throwing a ball, adding numbers, climbing on a jungle gym or spelling a new word.

3. Can you think of any sports or games where each and every player made perfect plays every time? The objective of a sport or game is to get over your mistakes and focus on the goal.

4. Who helps you make decisions that are tough? Think about goals you have and what you do to accomplish those goals.

5. No one is perfect! Everyone makes mistakes. The important thing is to learn from our mistakes and keep trying. Be persistent.

6. Different people enjoy different types of activities. It's important for each person to find some healthy activities that they enjoy. Some people love to run and others do not like to run. Some prefer dancing to baseball and others prefer baseball to dancing.
