KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.
During these times of uncertainty KLRN is adapting and creating new educational resources in an easy to follow format. We aim to provide the educational content and resources that support every family in our community.
During these daily blog posts, you will find that we will feature two PBS Kids programs and provide accompanying educational activities that will help extend the learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.
We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.

Molly finds an old photo of Grandpa as a child and is shocked to see him singing and drumming - Grandpa never sings. When Grandpa tells her he lost his songs when he gave his drum away, Molly goes on a mission to find his drum and return his songs to him.
The Qyah Canoers are ready for their first competition. There's just one problem: Molly, Tooey, and Trini don't know how to canoe! Mr. Patak refers them to Connie, but her coaching techniques are rather unusual. Are their chances for triumph doomed? Or does Connie's past hold the key to victory?

- Infant: Music has a power that goes beyond words. The pleasure of sharing music builds connections between parent and child as sounds and rhythms surround the child in a world of sensations and feelings. Music plays a powerful role in the lives of young children. Through music, babies and toddlers can come to better understand themselves and their feelings, learn to decipher patterns and solve problems, and discover the world around them in rich, complex ways. Simply singing nursery rhymes or playing soothing music, such as instrumental, nature, or waterflow helps your baby learn to relax and express themselves.
- Toddlers: Get a large paper cup, rubber band and piece of paper. Cut the paper to fit over the cup and tie down the piece of paper with the rubber band. This is your drum, now tap the top of the cup to make some music. Have a Drum Parade
- Preschool Activity: Drum Parade- Using containers such as empty oatmeal boxes, make a drum for your child. Children can pat the drums with their hands or use a small wooden spoon as a drumstick. Play music with a brisk beat and parade around the room or enjoy the freedom of the outdoors where the drummers can drum and stamp their feet to make loud, boisterous rhythms.
- Activity for Everyone: Personal Photo Album - Make a photo album with pictures on how you are connecting as a family. If you do not have photos available try writing a family journal where you can share the things you enjoy the most about your days together as a family.

Cyberchase

Hacker is holding the kids captive aboard the Grim Wreaker, when a storm forces the Wreaker to land on a snowy mountaintop. They are taken prisoner by a peaceful but mysterious Zen Master, who devises a game of strategy to test their problem-solving skills. The winner of the game will be set free - the loser will remain a prisoner.
In the battle of brainpower, the kids discover that each of them has a different way of solving problems - and that despite anger and frustration, they need to be tolerant of these differences. Hacker, of course, has his own way of solving problems. Working together, the kids find a way to defeat Hacker and gain their freedom.
The Big Idea: Treat tough math problems like a challenging game. Set a game plan, and as you play, see how it goes. Take time to review and revise before playing again. Work on your problem as long as you can, but stop before anger and frustration overtake your desire to play. (Topic Problem Solving)

Wonders of Mexico: Mountain Worlds

Mexico is a vast country, dominated by a great chain of mountains, the Sierra Madre. Journey down this rocky spine and you'll discover an amazing diversity of life and culture. In the far north, secret mountains worlds provide a stronghold for Mexico's black bears, while a violent tectonic past has created the grandest canyon of them all - the Copper Canyon.
These spectacular vistas have been home to the Raramuri for over two thousand years, shaping their life in this precipitous landscape. Travel south and the temperate and tropics collide. Magical oak forests thrive alongside orchids, creating a paradise for orchid bees. Mexico's volcanic heartland is home to restless giants. Their ash helps fertilize the soils, making this one of the most productive and inhabited regions of the country. Mexico's famous export, Tequila, is produced in the shadow of these ancient volcanoes.
Great civilizations rose and fell here too, leaving behind abandoned temples for a band of coatis to make their home. In the far south, the Sierra Madre catches moisture coming in from the Pacific Ocean. Rich cloud forests host some rare creatures, including one worshipped by the Aztecs - the resplendent quetzal. Some of Mexico's mountain worlds are so inviting they compel creatures to journey thousands of miles to reach them. Every year millions of monarch butterflies overwinter in the fir forests of central Mexico. Their arrival coincides with Mexico's most spectacular festival - the Day of the Dead.

Nature: Earth Navigators: Monarch Migration
The wondrous flight of millions of monarch butterflies from their roosts in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico has long captured the imagination of scientists, nature lovers, and tourists. Each spring, the butterflies begin their remarkable journey north. They travel thousands of miles on a trek that provides them with optimal breeding conditions and ultimately ensures the survival of the species. This video segment from Nature captures the butterflies' spring awakening.
