Texas Connection

Laredo-born comedian Vanessa Gonzalez was featured on Episode 2 of Roots of Comedy. Gonzalez shared how growing up along the U.S.-Mexico border influenced her humor - especially as the daughter of first-generation, Mexican American border patrol agents. The episode follows Vanessa from Austin, where she is currently based, back to her hometown of Laredo as she prepares for a special show in front of dozens of family, friends, and the community.

Roots of Comedy grow deeper in Laredo

In April, KLRN caught up with Vanessa for a special workshop and advanced screening of her episode at Texas A&M International. In conversation with a Texas A&M International professor, Vanessa shared what it's like to be a comedian, what inspires her, and what her writing process is like. She also lent her expertise to the students (and her family!) as they tried their hand at writing and performing their own comedy sets.
