SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS: January 22, 2021
To commemorate Black History Month, KLRN will air a two-part documentary titled, Living in My Skin - Black Men in San Antonio tell their stories, on February 2nd and 9th at 8 pm. The documentary is a collection of stories told by Black men living in San Antonio. These men range from ages 10 to 90 and represent a wide range of income levels and lifestyles.

Valero Energy Corporation and Bank of America are joint presenting sponsors of the documentary, which features 33 Black men who all live in San Antonio. These men tell the stories they often share with one another, but seldom with people outside their race. Living in My Skin attempts to create a deeper understanding of race relations in our community and foster a deeper cultural understanding of each other’s lives and feelings in these critical and divisive times.

Valero is proud to be a presenting sponsor of the Living in My Skin exhibit to provide this educational opportunity and to support Seymour Battle who is featured in the exhibit. Battle, a Valero employee, also served as Executive Producer of the documentary.

“The social, health and economic hardships and unrest of 2020 emphasized the need for compassion toward one another, and I saw that here in San Antonio and across the country,” said Jessica Miller, San Antonio market president, Bank of America. “As a demonstration of our commitment to help create racial equity and economic opportunity, Bank of America is investing in projects like The Living in My Skin Project - an impactful way to drive the meaningful dialogue that we need in this moment in our community.”

The Black population of San Antonio is only 7%, yet it hosts the largest MLK march in the nation. Additionally, 63% of our citizens are Hispanic, making us a majority minority city.

Many perceive San Antonio to be culturally enlightened and highly evolved. Even post racist. Is it?

Directed by Lionel and Kathy Sosa and produced with the help of Brandon Logan and Seymour Battle, the project was conceived during the aftermath of the George Floyd killing and the events that followed.

Texas A&M San Antonio will host a preview showing of the documentary and panel discussion on Friday, January 29 at 6pm. Local events and panels as well as watch parties and virtual discussions of the documentary are being planned. The documentary will live online on KLRN’s Video Player and the LivingInMySkinSA.com website.
