KLRN RECEIVES COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
FROM SAN ANTONIO ASSOCIATION OF HISPANIC JOURNALISTS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN ANTONIO, TX – August 21, 2026 – KLRN received the SAAHJ Community Service Award during the organization’s Awards Gala on Saturday, August 15.

Members of the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalist voted to recognize KLRN for its contributions to “provide essential services through trusted educational resources, homegrown programming, and public safety partnerships.” SAAHJ went on to emphasize the essential role of public media, now more than ever.

In 2025, Congress voted to rescind federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, clawing back roughly $1B in previously-allocated funds. As a result, KLRN – along with Texas Public Radio and hundreds of public television and radio stations across the country – lost sizable chunks of their budgets.

“KLRN is honored to receive this award from the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists,” said Arthur Emerson, President & CEO. “As the only locally-owned television station in San Antonio, KLRN proudly continues serving our 33-county viewing area with quality, educational programs. We are blessed to work with local journalism legends such as Jessie Degollado, Randy Beamer, Liz Ruiz, and Hector Saldaña who, under the leadership of Shari St. Clair, so expertly share the rich stories of our community for all to enjoy.”
