KLRN ORIGINAL WINS BEST DOCUMENTARY AWARD

Touchstone Independent Film Festival awards “Jesse Treviño: The Man. The Artist.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN ANTONIO, TX – NOVEMBER 14, 2024 – The KLRN Original “Jesse Treviño: The Man. The Artist.” earned the Best Documentary Feature award from the Touchstone Independent Film Festival, an international celebration of independent short films from all over the world that is dedicated to showcasing the best and most innovative work of independent filmmakers.

The film by journalist Randy Beamer, is an intimate look at the life of renowned San Antonio artist Jesse Treviño. A Vietnam War veteran, Treviño had to learn to paint with his left hand following a life-altering injury during his tour of service. Prior to his death in February of 2023, Treviño’s many works of art inspired countless artists in his hometown and beyond. His legacy can be still seen all around the city, with iconic works such as the nine-story mural, The Spirit of Healing, at Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital in downtown and La Veladora, a stunning three-dimensional mosaic mural on the city’s west side.

Shot over several years, the documentary includes never-before-seen footage, a look at some of his personal collections, and stories and memories shared by friends – and by Jesse himself.

“It’s great to see San Antonio’s legendary artist Jesse Treviño get even more recognition through this award.” Said Randy Beamer, the film’s producer. “It was an honor just to be his friend and then to be able to work with so many of his family and friends on this film to tell the story of his amazing work and fascinating life. A big thanks to all of them and everyone at KLRN Public Television for working so hard to make this documentary possible.”

Watch “Jesse Treviño: The Man. The Artist.” on-demand at klrn.org and with the PBS App. The film will also air Monday, November 25 at 8PM on PBS affiliate stations across the state as part of the Texas PBS “Made in Texas” series.
