KLRN’s Play & Learn Program is a free, 8-week program designed to bring families together in a welcoming, family-friendly environment to connect, learn, and grow side by side.
This fall, we are especially excited to continue supporting our military families by offering hybrid sessions (in-person and virtual) that fit the unique needs of those who serve and their loved ones.
Each week, families gather to explore PBS KIDS programs, apps, and resources, and take part in parallel play experiences that help children build social, emotional, and problem-solving skills. Parents and caregivers also join workshops focused on integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) at home. We’ll also learn about identifying and tracking children’s developmental milestones – valuable information for families navigating frequent moves and transitions.

What Play & Learn offers military families:
- A community of support where families connect with others who understand the challenges of military life.
- Books, take-home activities, and learning materials to keep children engaged at home or on the move.
- Sessions with Circle Time, child-directed play, group activities, music, dance, and story time, creating joyful, consistent routines.
- Hybrid options that make it easier for families to participate, no matter their schedule or location.
- A curriculum aligned to the 2022 Texas Pre-K Guidelines and the Texas Infant, Toddler, and Three-Year-Old Early Learning Guidelines, ensuring children stay on track no matter where life takes them.
Our program emphasizes that learning happens everywhere, anytime. Teachers work individually with families to model strategies, offer guidance, and inspire fun ways to extend learning beyond the classroom. Adults and children paint, build, plant, and play together, strengthening bonds while children develop healthy relationships with peers.
For our military families, Play & Learn also provides a sense of stability and belonging a place where parents can share experiences, exchange ideas, and feel supported while their children explore, create, and thrive.
