KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.

During these uncertain times, KLRN is adapting and creating educational resources in an easy-to-follow format. We aim to provide educational content and resources that support every family in our community.

With these daily blog posts, you will find two PBS Kids programs featured, and accompanying educational activities that will help extend learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.

We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.

Clifford the Big Red Dog

Hiccup Pup - Emily Elizabeth and Clifford discover that together, they might be able to break the world record for tallest stack of doggy biscuits! There is only one problem: Clifford has the hiccups and keeps knocking down their tower. The pair travel around Birdwell Island trying to get rid of the hiccups with all kinds of silly solutions. Top of the Charts - Emily Elizabeth gets inspired to create her own song--the happiest song in the world. She gets so focused on recruiting band members and instruments that she forgets the most important part of making music--practice!

Infant/Toddler

  • Pop-UP Pillow
    Use a pillow large enough for the infant to sit on. Sing "Pop Goes the Weasel," replacing weasel with the child's name. When you sing, "Pop goes (child's name)," have the child jump up and stand on the pillow. Younger infants will need you to hold their hand and help them stand.
  • Building Blocks Coloring Page
  • Planning and Building a Structure for a Favorite Toy
    Build a structure for a special object such as a stuffed animal or toy car.

Preschool

  • Stomp Words to Build Literacy
    This word building stomp game is a simple way to teach spelling, takes only minutes to make, and gets your child thinking and moving, inside or out.
  • A House Just Right for Me
    When your child compares objects in their environment and uses terms like “bigger", "smaller", "wider," and "taller," she is laying the foundation for understanding measurements. A fun way to practice measurement skills with your child is by building a house for a toy or for a favorite fictional character like the Cat in the Hat!
  • Pinka-Perfect Band
    Your child can explore music and sound by building unique instruments and joining in song with Pinkalicious and her friends.

Tooey has agreed to watch the Trading Post while Molly and her family head to their super-secret-berry-picking-spot, but their trip is cut short by a swarm of pesky mosquitos. If only Molly hadn't accidentally swapped the bug spray for dog perfume! A book in the Trading Post has a recipe for repellent made from wild plants. Can Tooey find it before Molly gets all bitten up? / Molly is thrilled when her cousin Randall calls from Sitka to say he's harvesting herring eggs-her absolute favorite food. Randall invites her to visit,but Mom insists Molly come up with 3 good reasons to make the long trip to Sitka by bush plane.

    Make beautiful spring butterflies out recycled toilet paper rolls!
  • Play Letter Hopscotch
    Recognizing each letter is one of the first steps of the reading process – but learning letter names outside of alphabetical order can be challenging. This activity gets the brain and the body moving and learning together. Grab some sidewalk chalk and take learning outdoors by making a letter hopscotch.
  • Outdoor Water Blob
    Make the perfect activity for hot summer days: a water blob!

Preschool

  • Grow Seedlings in an Egg Carton
    Growing seedlings in an egg carton is a great way to teach your child about plants.
  • Plant Identifier Sticks
  • Plant a Terrarium
    Plants in the wilderness need light, water, and soil to grow. You and your child can create a self-sufficient terrarium in your home. A terrarium is a micro-environment: moisture evaporates, then condensates and falls back down (just like rain) in an enclosed glass container. Bring the great outdoors inside!
  • Three Steps for Bug Repellent
    Watch this video and let the Count show you tips from Grover, Rosita, and Ernie on using bug repellent. Next time you put repellent on kids, remind them how the Sesame Street friends had to do it, too!

Little Women on Masterpiece Part 2

Primary Source Set: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

This collection uses primary sources to explore Louisa May Alcott's novel, Little Women. Digital Public Library of America Primary Source Sets are designed to help students develop their critical thinking skills and draw diverse material from libraries, archives, and museums across the United States. Each set includes an overview, ten to fifteen primary sources, links to related resources, and a teaching guide. These sets were created and reviewed by the teachers on the DPLA's Education Advisory Committee.
