KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.
During these uncertain times, KLRN is adapting and creating educational resources in an easy-to-follow format. We aim to provide educational content and resources that support every family in our community.
With these daily blog posts, you will find two PBS Kids programs featured, and accompanying educational activities that will help extend learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.
We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.
All the best,
KLRN’s Education Team

Mood Music
Music can often help us express our feelings. Together, sing a song or listen to some music that reflects different feelings and how your child is feeling.
Toddler
- Create Your Own Feeling Words Book
Help your child label and understand different feelings. - Doctor Daniel Game
Going to the doctor can be scary for young children. You can help your child prepare for an upcoming check up by exploring tools a doctor uses such as a stethoscope and an otoscope. - Understanding Emotions With a Feelings Faces Chart Activity
One way to help children identify and express their feelings is with a feelings faces chart. This chart shows faces in different states of emotion. In tough moments, it can help children explain — and their parents understand — just how they feel when they can’t find the words.
Preschool
- Pretend Play: Going to the Doctor
New experiences like starting a new school, getting a haircut, or going to the doctor can be upsetting or scary to children. Pretend play can help your child work through fears and feel more in control. In this activity, encourage your child to imagine she is a doctor using household items as instruments. - Overcoming Fears Through Pretend Play
Talking about a fear and problem solving ways to help your child become less afraid can help your child express their emotions. - Draw Your Feelings Activity with Daniel Tiger
- Simple Games That Explore Feelings
Young children feel many emotions that they might not be able to name yet. And naming emotions is important — it’s the first step toward being able to manage big feelings. Help your child learn about different emotions with these simple activities.

Toddler
- Make a Galaxy in a Jar
Our solar system — which includes the sun, Earth and seven other planets — is part of the Milky Way galaxy. Galaxies are made up of gas, dust, and billions of stars and their systems. In certain locations, you can see the sparkling Milky Way — a faint band of light running through the night sky. Explore the wonders that make up our galaxy by recreating its beauty in a bottle. - Twinkle Twinkle Letter Stars
Astronomers, the scientists who study stars, have divided the night sky into 88 official constellations. A “constellation” is a group of stars that form a recognizable pattern when viewed from Earth. Now you can create constellations in your home – while also teaching alphabet skills!
Preschool
- Solar System Art
Create your own solar system with paper, paint and a spray bottle! - Moon Flipbook
As the moon travels around the Earth, the sun always lights up on one side. We see different amounts depending on the moon's position. When the Earth is between the sun and the moon, we see a full moon. But when the moon is between the sun and the Earth, we see a dark new moon. It takes the moon about 28 days to make a complete trip around the Earth and go through each phase. - Make a Habitat Mapping Game
See what happens when human impact divides animal habitats by playing the Habitat Mapping Game with your child.
Grades K-2
Map-making pulls together a lot of skills: observation, spatial reasoning, drawing, and writing. Help your child strengthen their sense of place by making a map of your street or neighborhood.
Grades 5-8
- Plotting Pairs of Coordinate Points in All Four Quadrants to Construct Lines
Students watch a set of Cyberchase video clips which show that between two points there is exactly one line, and that if two lines intersect, they intersect at a point. These ideas are used to motivate students to learn to plot points in all four quadrants, draw line segments connecting pairs of points, and find the coordinates of the intersection. - Using a Coordinate Grid
- In this video segment from Cyberchase, the CyberSquad have become separated on an island. In order to find each other they bring up a map on their Skwak Pads and try to compare positions using a coordinate grid and landmarks on the map.
