¡Salud! host Jenna Saucedo

Our celebration of local Latina leaders continues this week on ¡Salud!.

The stories, the mentors, the advice – all from women leading businesses in San Antonio! On this episode, we get inspired by three amazing women taking charge in corporate America, from pink heels and bold accessories, to Selena and global celebrities.

This program is proudly sponsored by Texas Mutual.

Bonnie Garcia

Marketing and public relations guru Bonnie Garcia shares her story of how she climbed the ladder from radio DJ to heading national marketing campaigns for the Hispanic audience.  Oh, and did you know, she was the one who signed a young Corpus Christi singer named Selena to her first spokesperson contract? Bonnie shares stories on what is was like working with celebrities in a global corporate world, how being a women in a leading position came with many challenges, and how her family's dichos (proverbs) helped her along the way when things got tough.

Laura Cabanilla and Jenna Saucedo

We also chat with Laura Cabanilla, the first ever person to hold the job of corporate responsibility lead at USAA, overseeing philanthropic contributions to advance diversity, equity and inclusion.  She credits sports with much of her success - how setting the bar high is a must,  picking yourself up after a fail is just as successful as a win, and how doing everything with passion is the best way to tackle challenges.

Debbie Marino and Jenna Saucedo

And lastly, we meet Debbie Marino, senior vice president of Corporate Relations at SWBC, who tells us about her mentors and their influence on her. She talks about how her biggest mentors in her career have been men, but that didn't stop her from learning and applying the advice she was given during her career. She speaks about how being a woman in a corporate world doesn't mean you have to stop being yourself. Plus, she rocks a great pair of pink heels and if that isn't powerful, we don't know what is!

Watch ¡Salud! airing Thursday, September 30 at 7:30PM on KLRN.
