KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.

During these uncertain times, KLRN is adapting and creating educational resources in an easy-to-follow format. We aim to provide educational content and resources that support every family in our community.

With these daily blog posts, you will find two PBS Kids programs featured, and accompanying educational activities that will help extend learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.

We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.

Curious George

Tuesday, April 28 at 8 AM

Zoo Night - George is so entranced by the new, adorable baby panda at the zoo that he stays through closing time and is accidentally locked inside. While trying to find the way out, he mistakenly opens a few wrong doors and finds himself surrounded by gorillas, giraffes, meerkats, and penguins! Now George has to use his map of the zoo to put all the animals back in the correct habitats before they wake up the baby panda!

Charkie Escapes - Dog sitting Charkie is always a challenge but it's especially difficult today when George really wants to practice his soccer kicks. Every time George comes up with a way of keeping Charkie tied up, Charkie comes up with a way of slipping out of her leash. It takes all of George's problem-solving skills to find a way to keep Charkie from running away...until George discovers that she likes playing soccer too.

  • Animal Pictures
    Gather animal pictures from magazines and talk to your baby about the animals and their homes.
  • Paper Bag Animals
    Get ready for your child's next puppet show by creating these cute paper bag animals. You can make an eagle, an elephant, a lion, or a raccoon.

Preschool

  • Activity Track It
    Exploring animal tracks will help boost observation and investigation skills.
  • Explore the Outdoors Video
    Things in nature can appear similar, but observing them more closely shows they’re all unique.

  • Hand Painting
    Have the baby experiment with 2 colors and see how combining the 2 colors make a different color.
  • Experiment with Really Big Bubbles
    Introduce some science fun while playing with bubbles. Help your child make a large wand and simple bubble solution to create really big bubbles.

American Experience: Fight

Tuesday, April 28 at 4 PM

Explore the 1938 world heavyweight championship bout between Joe Louis and German Max Schmeling, who, in the shadow of war, became reluctant symbols of equality and supremacy, democracy and fascism.

Grades 3-7, 13+

Muhammad Ali | Boxer and Civil Rights Activist

Students will learn about the remarkable athletic achievements and advocacy of Muhammad Ali. After watching a biographical video, students will analyze a photograph taken during the height of the controversy over Ali’s refusal to fight in the Vietnam War, and they will read the transcript of a revealing interview Ali gave and answer questions about it. To conclude the lesson, students will choose a quotation to use for a motivational poster.
