KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.

During these uncertain times, KLRN is adapting and creating educational resources in an easy-to-follow format. We aim to provide educational content and resources that support every family in our community.

With these daily blog posts, you will find two PBS Kids programs featured, and accompanying educational activities that will help extend learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.

We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.

All the best,
KLRN’s Education Team

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

Wednesday, April 29 at 9 AM

Calm for Storytime: The children are going to the Neighborhood Library for story time and all the excitement has made them feel a bit silly. Prince Wednesday has a hard time getting calm for the library, but discovers that there are times to be calm and times when it's more than okay to be silly.

Calm at the Clock Factory: Daniel and his friends are visiting Dad Tiger's Clock Factory. Daniel is so excited to show off his dad and the clocks he makes that he is having trouble staying calm. He learns that there are places where you need to be calm and places where it's okay to be silly.

Feelings come in all shapes and sizes. When you help children express and understand their emotions, you’re helping them to overcome challenges, understand others, and communicate.

Infant/ Toddler

  • Muppet Feelings
Children can begin to develop their emotional vocabulary by naming the emotions of their Sesame Street friends in this fun activity.
  • Talking About Feelings
Talking with grown-ups helps kids express themselves and builds a trusting bond. Use this story and coloring sheet to talk to your child.

Preschool

  • Learning About Emotions
Talking with your child about emotions is key to building an emotionally supportive environment at home. By building this space at home, your child can learn to better express herself and handle emotions when she’s out and about.
  • Practice Mindfulness With Belly Breathing
During stressful or intense emotional moments, children may not have the coping skills to calm themselves. Diaphragmatic breathing, also known as belly breathing, is a calming exercise that both children and parents can practice to relax and feel grounded, and one that children as young as three can practice.
  • Draw Your Feelings Game
Drawing is one way your child can express and manage difficult emotions. Use this online drawing activity as a tool for your child.

For Everyone

Make a Healthy “Feelings Faces” Snack

Using words to describe feelings can help give your child power over his emotions, making them less overwhelming or scary. And talking about feelings with a caring listener helps children understand that feelings are normal — and that others have felt that way, too. Help your child think about how emotions look and feel with this activity that doubles as a healthy snack!
