KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.

During these uncertain times, KLRN is adapting and creating educational resources in an easy-to-follow format. We aim to provide educational content and resources that support every family in our community.

With these daily blog posts, you will find two PBS Kids programs featured, and accompanying educational activities that will help extend learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.

We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.

Sesame Street: Grocery Games

Tuesday, May 5 at 10 AM

To make food shopping more fun, Alan turns it into a game. Elmo, Abby, and Cookie Monster need to find three foods that start with the letter C from different sections of the grocery store. Can they get the food in Alan's cart before he finishes checking out?

Infant/ Toddler

  • Building a Love of Literacy at Every Age
    Every stage of literacy development is a new opportunity to help kids develop a lifelong love of reading and writing.
  • Magnetic Letters
    Create your own magnetic letters to use as a Super Why! party activity or to send home in a party favor bag.
  • Play Doggie Detective to Learn Letters
    In “Woofster Find a Home” Super Why adopts Woofster and learns to take care of his new puppy. In this game, kids can search for toy puppies while working on their letter identification skills.
  • Recognizing Letters
    Knowing their letters prepares kids for kindergarten.

Wild Kratts: Under Frozen Pond

Tuesday, May 5 at 2:30 PM

The Wild Kratts and Wild Kratts kids go on an underwater adventure to discover how pond animals survive in the winter.

Infant/ Toddler

  • Picture Books
    Use picture books on Sea Animals to expose your baby to different animals, their names and habitats.
  • Make an Ocean Mobile
    Building a mobile helps show how remarkable the ocean is and reminds others that it’s a place worth protecting. Use materials from the recycling bin to create creatures and capture the environment. Real ocean items such as shells, pieces of driftwood, and dried seaweed are great, too, if you have them.
  • Sink or Float
    Investigate with Grover to find out what makes certain items sink and other items float.

Preschool

  • Make an Upcycled Jellyfish
    Recycling benefits land and oceans. Rather than throwing away plastic bags, kids can creatively reuse them to create this mesmerizing jellyfish in a bottle.
  • Make Glowing Water
    With this simple project, kids and parents will create "glowing water" by adding the contents of a non-toxic highlighter to water. This project is a great way to learn about bioluminescence in nature.

Grades K-5

Animals Making a Living

An animal makes its living by finding food. Plant eaters have a relatively easy time of it, while meat eaters must work a little harder for their next meal. This video segment explores the wide range of food-finding strategies that exist in the animal world and identifies some of the physical and behavioral adaptations that make them effective.

Native America: From Caves to Cosmos

Tuesday, May 5 at 4 PM

Combine ancient wisdom and modern science to answer a 15,000-year-old question: who were America's First Peoples? The answer hides in Amazonian cave paintings, Mexican burial chambers, New Mexico's Chaco Canyon and waves off California's coast.

Grades 4-12

Why Teach Native American History? | Wyoming's Native Americans

In the accompanying lessons plans (found in the Support Materials), contributions of Washakie and Sacajawea will be highlighted, and stress the importance of teaching and learning about the unique history, culture, and contemporary contributions of Wyoming’s tribes on the Wind River Reservation in a culturally responsive manner.
