KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.

During these uncertain times, KLRN is adapting and creating educational resources in an easy-to-follow format. We aim to provide educational content and resources that support every family in our community.

With these daily blog posts, you will find two PBS Kids programs featured, and accompanying educational activities that will help extend learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.

We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.

Curious George

DJ George - It's George's lucky day when the Man with the Yellow Hat wins tickets to a Bonnie Smooth concert over the radio. But at the radio station, George's luck turns when he accidentally locks himself into the DJ booth just as Bonnie Smooth herself is scheduled to call in for an interview.

Curious George Paints the Desert - While visiting the Quints during their desert vacation, George is thrilled when his new Native American friend makes a colorful sand painting of the happy monkey.

Infant/Toddler

  • Paint With Nature
    Get outside and have fun with nature, using natural objects (leaves, flowers, or anything else!) as brushes or stamps to paint creative art projects.
  • Mess-Free Art
    This activity is a super-simple way to let your child finger paint without dealing with the mess! Enjoy making art without the clean-up afterward.

Preschool

  • Homemade Watercolor Paints
    Make your own paint in just a few steps! Get started on this fun activity right away using supplies that you most likely have in your pantry.
  • 3D Art Projects
    These works of art are also a 3D sensory treat! Let your children paint and create, then microwave their pictures and hang them up.
  • Write Secret Crayon Messages
    In this activity, your child will use the crayon resist painting technique to write secret messages! When you write with a white crayon on white paper, the writing appears invisible . . . but when you brush over it with watercolor paint, the message shows up!

Pinkalicious and Peterrific

Tuesday, May 26 at 1 PM

It's a snow day for Pinkalicious, Peter, Rafael and Jasmine! In fact, it snowed so much that the snow reaches Pinkalicious' bedroom window! With all this snow on the ground, the kids decide to build the most pinkatastic sled run ever! / Pinkalicious and Peter find Felix the Frost Fairy fast asleep on the job. They'll need to help him so everyone in Pinkville will have wonderful winter window designs when they wake up.

Infant/Toddler

  • Sing Songs
    A lovely weather themed song is Rain, Rain Go Away - You could do some actions e.g. wiggle fingers to imitate rain falling, march along with baby in time with the music or splash fingers into a small dish of water.
  • How to Make Snow Paint
    Making two-ingredient snow paint is such a fun craft and sensory activity for kids! The craft is not only a boredom-buster winter activity but is also a great way to open up a conversation with your kids about the changing weather and snow in winter.
  • Coloring Page Alpha Pig Making a Snow Angel

Preschool

  • Exploring Weather
    Does your child like to splash in rain puddles or watch the clouds as they move across the sky? You can help your child learn about weather by making a simple weather chart together and observing the weather with all their senses!
  • Homemade Snow Globes
    A homemade snow globe is a childhood must! The best part about these snow globes is that they give you the perfect opportunity to get rid of some of those pesky plastic figurines lying around the house. Another idea is to use LEGOs -- if your child can part with them!

Native America: New Worlds Rising

Hispanic Exploration in America

Spain’s explorations were driven by the desire to expand its knowledge of the world, to discover spices and riches, and to spread Christianity. In 1492, when Christopher Columbus, on a journey funded by Spain, took a westerly course across the Atlantic Ocean searching for an alternative route to the Indies, he inadvertently “discovered” a new continent. These resources from the Library of Congress provides a window into this time period, as well as a Teacher's Guide with historical context and teaching suggestions.
