KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.

During these uncertain times, KLRN is adapting and creating educational resources in an easy-to-follow format. We aim to provide educational content and resources that support every family in our community.

With these daily blog posts, you will find two PBS Kids programs featured, and accompanying educational activities that will help extend learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.

We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

The Tiger Family is heading out on a road trip to Grandpere's house! At first, Daniel doesn't know what to expect on the ride, but when Mom Tiger gives him a helpful map, he learns that there are so many exciting things to do and see when you're on a trip with your family. Strategy: There are so many things to do and see, when you're on a trip with your family.

Infant/Toddler

  • Make A Memory Book
    Help your child create memory books to document her favorite experiences.
  • From My Heart to Yours
    Print this page and talk together with children about who has helped them today and write or draw on the hearts. Then help your child cut out the hearts and deliver them, or hide them for the recipient to find. You can model gratitude by completing some hearts yourself.

Preschool

  • Make a Neighborhood Map
    Introduce your child to mapping and spatial skills, while helping them gain a better understanding of his community.
  • Map Your Neighborhood
    Map-making pulls together a lot of skills: observation, spatial reasoning, drawing, and writing. Help your child strengthen their sense of place by making a map of your street or neighborhood.

  • Nature Road Trip
    Join the gang on a nature road trip visiting national parks and natural wonders around the United States.

Pinkalicious & Peterrific

Tuesday, May 12 at 1 PM

Norman turns down an invitation to a garden gnome party because he can't dance the Big Jig. With a little help from Edna, the gnome, Pinkalicious and Peter help Norman point, hop, and step his way to the party. To Pinkalicious, Goldie the unicorn is her best friend - but to Kendra, Goldie doesn't exist! When Kendra accidentally causes Goldie to go missing, she's determined to find her - but first she has to learn to "see" her.

Infant/Toddler

  • Play calm music to offer children a relaxing moment. Set blankets and cushions on the floor. Turn the lights down and let babies and toddlers gently move to the sound of the music.
  • Pinkalicious Dance Party
  • Practice Self-Control by Playing Freeze Dance
    Self-control is an important skill for children to develop so they can do things like not hit when they feel angry or learn to stop playing when they have to go to the bathroom. Here’s a jazzy way to help your child practice self-control by combining music with this "freeze" game.

Native America: Nature to Nations

Tuesday, May 12 at 4 PM

Explore the rise of great American nations. Investigate lost cities in Mexico, a temple in Peru, a potlatch ceremony in the Pacific Northwest and a tapestry of shell beads in upstate New York whose story inspired our own democracy.

Grade 3-12

Little Deer and Mother Earth | Native American Culture

In this video Marilou Awiakta, of Cherokee/Appalachian heritage, tells a traditional Cherokee story in which humans are killing too many of their animal relatives, threatening the delicate balance of nature. Little Deer leads the animals in taking action, teaching the lesson that people should take “only what you need with respect and gratitude.”
