KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.

During these uncertain times, KLRN is adapting and creating educational resources in an easy-to-follow format. We aim to provide educational content and resources that support every family in our community.

With these daily blog posts, you will find two PBS Kids programs featured, and accompanying educational activities that will help extend learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.

We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

Daniels Grr-ific Grandpere - Daniel Tiger is excited to spend the whole day with his grandpa - Grandpere! Whether they're riding on Grandpere's boat, sorting through Grandpere's treasures, or even just relaxing on the sandy shore, they love the special time they have together. Making Mozies with Nana - Daniel Tiger spends the whole day with Jodi and her Nana. Jodi and Nana love the special things they do together, like baking sweet treats and coloring.

When the Wild Kratts Team decides to explore the spot where early explorers Lewis and Clark first laid eyes on the American prairie, they discover that prairies and the amazing bison herds of yore are much harder to find these days.

    Use animal picture books to share with your baby and describe the animals in detail. Language helps build children learning.
  • Create Clay Animal Tracks
    Has your child ever discovered an animal track? Was it in snow or mud? In this activity, kids can turn their favorite animal tracks into art by imprinting on clay. When they’re done, hang the finished pieces on the wall or gift them to someone special!
  • Create a Park Explorer Kit
    Finding unexpected treasures in your backyard or in the park will be even more interesting with a park explorer kit!

Discover Animals and Their Habitats Through Books

History Detectives

A one-of-a-kind photograph poses a jarring question: Is the African American wearing a Confederate uniform slave or free? And, did Hollywood treat the Native Americans listed in this payment ledger fairly? Then, an ornate stock certificate unlocks secrets to the earliest days of Harlem.

Historical Photographs

History Detectives goes in search of a Native American legend. More than a hundred and twenty five years after his death, the name Crazy Horse still echoes in the black hills of South Dakota. In his life, the Lakota warrior and spiritual man vowed to protect these sacred hunting grounds from encroaching settlers and gold miners.

Despite his fame, Crazy Horse refused to be photographed, shunning technology. For years rumors of Crazy Horse photographs have tantalized collectors. More than a hundred and twenty five years after the warrior’s death, History Detectives discovers if a framed image is in fact the only photographic image of this legend. Lesson support materials include a guide to identifying photographs by the era and type: Daguerreotype: 1839-1860; Ambrotype: 1854-1865; Tintype: 1856-1920.
