KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.

During these uncertain times, KLRN is adapting and creating educational resources in an easy-to-follow format. We aim to provide educational content and resources that support every family in our community.

With these daily blog posts, you will find two PBS Kids programs featured, and accompanying educational activities that will help extend learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.

We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.

Sesame Street

Friday, May 8 at 10 AM

Librarian Grover helps Nina and Elmo find the books they need while looking through the different sections of the library.

Infant/Toddler

  • Books
    Find fun alphabet books to introduce babies to letters and sounds. Sesame Street has a FREE Elmo's ABC Book Practice the ABCs, and discover if Elmo has a favorite letter of the alphabet.
  • Twinkle Twinkle Letter Stars
    Astronomers, the scientists who study stars, have divided the night sky into 88 official constellations. A “constellation” is a group of stars that form a recognizable pattern when viewed from Earth. Now you can create constellations in your home – while also teaching alphabet skills!
  • CHALK Writing
    Use large pieces of colored sidewalk chalk. Write or draw on a chalkboard, sidewalk, cement wall, wet paper, dry construction paper.
  • Window Letter Painting
    Toddlers love to finger paint on a low window. When the paint dries they can use their fingers or a cotton tipped swab to scribble letters or designs through the paint. Use this window paint recipe from The Imagination Tree.

Louisa May Alcott: Transcendentalism

Explore the impact of transcendentalism on the life of Louisa May Alcott and American society in this video from the American Masters film Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind 'Little Women.' Emphasizing self-reliance, civil disobedience, intuition, the importance of nature, and knowing oneself, transcendentalists like Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau left permanent marks on American values.

Alcott spent much of her life surrounded by deep thinkers like Emerson and Thoreau and echoes of their influence can be found in her writing and the way she lived her life. Engage students with discussion questions, a close reading of quotes from Emerson and Thoreau, and connections to the movement in popular culture today.
