KLRN strives to provide valuable educational content to every family in our viewing area, from great drama, world-class music, in-depth news, fascinating "how-to" programs and, best of all — non-violent educational programs for your children.
During these uncertain times, KLRN is adapting and creating educational resources in an easy-to-follow format. We aim to provide educational content and resources that support every family in our community.
With these daily blog posts, you will find two PBS Kids programs featured, and accompanying educational activities that will help extend learning into your home. In addition to that we have added a new 4 PM time slot that aims at providing some content for older school age students. You will find resources tied to each of these programs aired daily with lessons from our PBS LearningMedia site.
We hope that this will provide your family a way to enjoy the PBS shows you love and extend the learning into your home.

Gimme Shelter - The gang cannot wait to get to Lookout Point, the premiere spot to watch sunsets! It's supposed to be beautiful and colorful! They run on, nothing can stop them now! Uh oh, spoke to soon! A change in the weather does stop them, as it gets really cloudy and windy! Squeeks thinks it's going to rain! Can the gang find shelter before the dastardly downpour? Tally ho!
Goin' Batty - Nature Cat can't wait to get to Cocono Cave! At dusk the bats fly out all together into the early evening sky! It's supposed to be an amazing nature sight! But getting there proves to be a big problem for Nature Cat, who has a series of mishaps, leaving him to question his love of nature. Gasp! Oh no, say it isn't so!

Create an album using camping pictures and then show it to your baby and talk about the pictures. - Activity Leaf Prints
Gather various types of leaves and dip into paint and press the print onto paper. Then describe the leaf to the child. - Leaf Brush Painting

Cyberchase

Contestants from all over Cyberspace have come to Gardenia, a gorgeous garden cybersite ruled by the Queen Mum, for its annual flower-growing contest. Hacker is sure his doofydill will win Tallest Flower, but when he loses to Inez and her happiolus, he is furious and plots a plant-based revenge.
He flies off to a faraway site and brings back a funky flower - an invasive species! The funky flower emits a stinky odor that no one can handle - not even the Queen Mum. Worse, it also spreads quickly, steals water, hoards sunlight and crowds out all the native plants! The CyberSquad races against time to find ways to stop the funky flower. Can they rescue Gardenia before it - and Hacker - take over for good?

Games with your baby that involve music teaches him mathematical concepts. You can play a musical game that involves rhymes with your baby. Give your baby a wooden spoon or a rhythm stick. You should have a stick too. Sing a song such as “The Wheels of the Bus” and tap the sticks to the beat of the song. - Bedtime Math

- Home Activity Counting Around the House
The purpose of this activity is to help your child explore numbers and counting, an important step toward learning how to add and subtract. - Roll & Bead: Make Jewelry With Math
This multiplayer game is super simple and develops counting, subitizing (recognizing amounts without counting), as well as fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills. Children will get to make a cool bracelet too!

- Pollinators | Cyberchase
Learn how animals spread pollen from one plant to another with this video from Cyberchase. This resource includes discussion questions, vocabulary, and a hands-on activity that models how pollinators spread pollen from flower to flower. - Deforestation | Cyberchase
Trees provide the Earth with many things that help other plants and animals — including humans — survive, like air to breathe, places to live, and food to eat. In this Cyberchase video, the CyberSquad learns about the importance of forests and replants trees to help combat deforestation. This resource includes discussion questions, vocabulary, an “Adopt a Tree” journal, and a classroom mural activity that helps students communicate why trees are so important.

American Epic: Blood & Soil

Travel to the rural South as Elder Burch, Charley Patton and others record early Delta blues, gospel and protest songs. The Great Flood of 1927 devastates Mississippi River communities, leading to northern migration and Chicago Blues by Howlin' Wolf.

Born to an aristocratic white Mississippi family, Will Percy witnessed a seismic shift in his community following the 1927 flood. Read excerpts from his memoir, from American Experience: "Fatal Flood."
