Hi Friends!

Thank you for joining us for KLRN's Educator Session earlier this month to learn about health and well-being with KLRN’s The Healthy Kids Project! Be sure to catch our upcoming training about Healthy Holiday Swaps happening December 12. See all our upcoming Educator Sessions at klrn.org/events. Thank you to The San Antonio Medical Foundation for their foundational support of The Healthy Kids Project, and thank you to Health Confianza & Wellness Cultura for their additional support.

It’s important to stay active every day. The best way to keep moving is to find activities that you enjoy. One really fun way to stay active is to start a garden! As an added bonus, if you grow fruits and vegetables, you can eat the foods that you grow! Check out these videos hosted by our friend Angela, with tips for growing a garden.

As we focus on staying active, let’s watch The Healthy Kids Project video “Hello Body.”  Both the video and song offer great ideas for starting your day with activity, and even how to recharge throughout the day!

Here are some interesting facts from The Healthy Kids Project about our bones and muscles, and the importance of exercising:

  • Broken bones actually repair themselves. The purpose of a cast is to make sure that the bone grows in the right direction.
  • The skeleton has two jobs. It holds your body up and supports it, so that your body isn’t like a wet piece of spaghetti. Your skeleton also protects your body’s organs.
  • Exercise can help make your muscles and bones healthier and stronger.
  • Muscles come in many different shapes and sizes. Smile wide, you are using a muscle!
  • Joints allow the body to bend and be flexible.
  • Your body has 206 bones and more than 600 muscles!
  • The average person moves their eyes more than 100,000 times a day. When you move your eyes, you are using muscles!
