Texas no longer accepting Syrian refugees

Effective immediately, Texas will no longer accept refugees from Syria.

Gov. Greg Abbott informed President Obama today that he is taking the action in the wake of Friday's deadly terrorist attacks in Paris.

Abbott says a Syrian refugee appears to have been part of the terror attacks and does not wish to put Texans in potential danger.

"Neither you nor any federal official can guarantee that Syrian refugees will not be part of any terroristic activity," Abbott's letter states. "As such, opening our door to them irresponsibly exposes our fellow Americans to unacceptable peril."

The action comes a few days after both Alabama and Michigan announced bans on Syrian refugees in their states.
