Today is first day of early voting

Early voting is under way for seven constitutional amendments, a special election for a state representative, and school and city charter issues around the region.

Two of the amendments include increasing your homestead exemption while another would provide money for the State Highway Fund.

Even so, turnout is traditionally very weak for these non-presidential election-year elections. Last year, only 9 percent of registered voters participated.

If you live in the North East Independent School District, you might want to let your voice be heard. An almost half-billion dollar bond issue is on the ballot.

Renovations to school campuses, replacing portable buildings and replacing the 60-year-old bleachers at Comalander Stadium are included.
