Email share

The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department is hiring more than 200 lifeguards to serve at 23 outdoor swimming pools this summer. Individuals 16 and older are welcome to apply.

Lifeguard introduction clinics will be available on March 18, April 1 and April 15, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Antonio Natatorium, 1430 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. Applicants will have time to complete an online application and meet current lifeguards to learn more about the job.

Participants are required to take a prerequisite skills test that includes swimming 300 yards freestyle and breaststroke, treading water without using arms for two minutes, and retrieving a 10-pound weight from 13 feet of water and swimming across the pool within a given time.

The prerequisite skills test can be taken during the introduction clinic or scheduled for a later time. Applicants will receive training classes once the application and test are complete.  CPR and lifesaving training is provided to prepare applicants for their lifeguard responsibilities.
