Deadly oak wilt creeping into new areas across city

Email share

A fungal disease known as oak wilt may be creeping south from the Northwest and North Sides of the city.

The San Antonio Express-News reports several Bexar County communities are taking precautions to prevent the disease from spreading to new areas.

There is no cure for oak wilt, which spreads through the roots of trees or through contact with a specific beetle. The disease appears in leaves that turn yellow around the veins.

Oak wilt has killed millions of live oaks and red oaks and caused hundreds of millions of dollars worth of property value losses.

We’ve set up a link to the Texas A&M Forest Service website for more information about oak wilt.
