Program Description
This adaptation of the beloved French novel by Emile Zola is a rags to riches story of a young woman seduced by the dangerous charms of the modern world. Set against the Victorian splendor of a British department store, "The Paradise" follows Denise Lovett who lands a job as a shop girl and finds herself facing a future filled with never-before-imagined opportunities. Young and ambitious country girl Denise Lovett arrives in a booming northern city and takes a job at The Paradise, the glittering department store across from her uncle's drapery shop. It's not long before her beauty and talent catch the eye of the store's dashing owner, John Moray. Denise struggles to navigate the competing personalities in the Ladieswear department where she has been placed. Can her ingenuity save the day when she's faced with her first challenges as a shop girl?
