PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest
This year’s local contest has ended, and our first place stories have been sent on to compete in the national contest. The results should be known later this summer. KLRN celebrated all of our local contest participants with a family event on Sun., May 2 at the Arneson River Theater in San Antonio. Attendees enjoyed refreshments and activities, as well as an appearance from Mr. McFeely of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. Special thanks to H-E-B for sponsoring this year’s contest and to John and Cheryl Vollmer for donating Dell laptop computers for each of our first place winners!

College Call-In 2010
KLRN’s 5th Annual College Call-In, connecting parents and students with college admissions and financial aid counselors, aired Thurs., Feb. 25 on KLRN. Taped at a local coffee house, the Call-In featured segments from the PBS series, Roadtrip Nation, tips from college experts, and some fun surprises. This year, viewers could call-in or log-in to learn more about going to college. During the airing, the Call-In’s website featured a live twitter stream for audience members to “tweet” their questions to the experts. Special thanks go to our project partner, the San Antonio Education Partnership, for their help in making this event happen.

Fresh Cut 2010
KLRN Fresh Cut 2010 video competition for high school students featured categories such as Documentaries and Public Service Announcements as well as Animation and online voting for the “Viewer’s Choice” Award.
