Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest
KLRN’s 14th Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest ended with a festive family celebration on May 3, 2008 in KLRN’s Robert L.B. Tobin Studio. Special guest, Miss Lori from PBS Kids, entertained the young writers and their families with story time and a meet and greet. This year’s contest had more than 175 entries from children in kindergarten through
third grade. The stories were terrific and our judges had quite a task in
selecting the top three stories from each grade level. Local prizes included
Dell laptop computers, Leapfrog Learning Systems, and H-E-B gift cards.
This year’s contest was generously supported by H-E-B and Burger King.
College Call-In 2008
KLRN’s 2008 College Call-In included segments from the PBS series, Road Trip Nation, as well as interviews with leaders from local colleges and universities, current college students, and professionals. A phone bank in KLRN’s studio was staffed with financial aid and admissions experts who answered calls from viewers. During this live broadcast, parents, students, teachers, and school counselors were encouraged to use the call-in number to learn answers to their college-related questions. Special thanks go to our project partner, the
San Antonio Education Partnership, for their help in making this year’s event
a success. Stay tuned for College Call-IN 2009!
Fresh Cut 2008
We heard from dozens of budding student filmmakers who submitted their original works for inclusion in our 2008 edition of this highly-anticipated program. Each entry reflected the indisputable creativity and skill of our community’s high school students, and KLRN would like to thank all of the student filmmakers
that participated.
