TV Program Descriptions

ARTHUR (6 to 9 years of age) Based on Marc Brown's best--selling books, Arthur and his friends use effective, age-appropriate, problem-solving skills. Arthur and his friends manage to solve their crises with imagination, kindness and a lot of humor.
BARNEY & FRIENDS (2 to 5 years of age) Using music and the power of imagination to involve young viewers. Themes include: manners, health and safety, family, shapes, colors, imagination, alphabet fun, fears, seasons and weather, nature, friendship, and other cultures.
BOOHBAH (3 to 6 years of age) is a program that has been designed to inspire children to get up off the couch. The silly, dynamic movements and funny dances of the Boohbahs invite children to spontaneously mimic the characters on-screen.
BERENSTAIN BEARS (2 to 7 years of age) This program centers on the funny, touching and familiar experiences of the Bear family, and focusing on the lives and conflicts of Brother (10) and Sister (8), and the decisions and choices that they make in their daily lives. The educational goal is to promote social and emotional competence by encouraging children to recognize how to make thoughtful, informed and responsible choices and decisions.
BETWEEN THE LIONS (4 to 7 years of age) The series is named for a family of lions -- Theo and Cleo and their cubs, Lionel and Leona. Each 30-minute episode centers on a book or other written material that the lions and their friends discover in the library.
CAILLOU (2 to 5 years of age) Cailou (pronounced KÝ-YOO) is a lovable four-year-old who has a unique way of relating to the world. Blending animation and live-action segments with humor, kid logic and imagination, Caillou helps preschoolers make sense of the world.
CLIFFORD, THE BIG RED DOG (2 to 5 years of age) A lovable oversized canine, Clifford presents a larger-than-life view of the world. With his loving human, Emily Elizabeth, and dog pals, Clifford inhabits a colorful island community, emphasizing good citizenship and the importance of community.
CYBERCHASE (8 to 11 years of age) Cyberchase helps kids discover that math is fun and something we experience, not just in school, but all around us, everyday. The show helps kids feel successful - that they can be as good at math and problem solving as the Cyberchase kids can.
DRAGON TALES (2 to 5 years of age) Animated series of the adventures of six-year-old Emmy and her four-year-old brother, Max, who discover a magic dragon scale in the playroom of their new home. When they hold the scale and chant a poem, they're transported to Dragon Land, an enchanted land where stories demonstrate different strategies that children can use to explore the challenges they face.
MAYA & MIGUEL (6 to12 years of age) Chronicles the adventures of 10-year-old Latino twins, Maya and Miguel Santos, as they figure out how to leave their stamp on the vibrant world around them. Featuring their family, relatives and diverse neighborhood friends, the animated program will reflect back to viewers the cultural mosaic that our country’s neighborhoods have become.
MISTER ROGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD (2 to 5 years of age) The- goal of this series is to provide a quiet oasis of respect for children, their feelings and capabilities, and to nurture the child's healthy growth and self-respect.
POSTCARDS FROM BUSTER (6 to 9 years of age) A new half-hour ARTHUR® spin-off, blends animation with live-action footage of Buster’s travel adventures throughout the United States, with forays into Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. The series' goal is to help children develop a greater understanding and appreciation of the varied cultures that make up North America.
READING RAINBOW (5 to 8 years of age) Reading Rainbow, hosted by LeVar Burton, features television adaptations of children's picture books, book reviews done by children, and on-location "field trip" segments that illustrate themes suggested by the show's feature book.
SAGWA, THE CHINESE SIAMESE CAT (5 to 8 years of age) Set against the backdrop of ancient China, Sagwa displays the boundless energy and fresh perspective of an 8-year-old discovering the world and learning some of life's most important lessons.
SESAME STREET (2 to 5 years of age) Prepares preschoolers for the transition from home to school; develops positive attitudes toward reading and mathematics concepts; encourages appreciation of cultural diversity; promotes problem solving skills; and explores family issues, emotions, and social interactions.
TELETUBBIES (1 to 5 years of age) Designed for children aged from one year, this series was created and developed as a celebration of play and features four technological babies, Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po, who love each other very much and live happily in their own world of childhood imagination.
ZOOM (6 to12 years of age) Created for kids by kids, ZOOM features games, plays, science experiments and other activities based on contributions sent in by kids from across the country.
