Fresh Cut 2007 Entries Due March 21
KLRN is now accepting entries from high school students for the 6th installment of KLRN's FRESH CUT series, showcasing the innovative video work of local students. Visit klrn.org/freshcut to watch last year's entries, including National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences award winner MOCHA, created by students from The Film School of San Antonio at Harlandale. Reading Rainbow Contest Entries Due
March 30
KLRN announces its Thirteenth Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest for children from kindergarten to third grade. This year's prizes include a Dell Laptop Computer for first place, second place receives a Leapfrog Learning System and third place gets a $50 gift certificate for books at HEB Plus! Each grade level is judged seperately. All entries are due March 30, 2007. Visit the website for more information and an entry form.


World War II: In Our Words
Chances are it affected you, your family, your friends, or someone you love.

In preparation of the local production World War II: In Our Words, KLRN is looking to capture your stories and experiences related to this worldwide catastrophe. This hometown effort is devoted to gaining a better perspective into the real lives, the real stories, and the real emotions of those who served and those whose lives were touched during this remarkable time in history. Many men and women in our area played instrumental roles in the efforts that surrounded World War II, and now you have an opportunity to help us share these stories.

Spelling Bee
KLRN will present the San Antonio Express-News 54th Annual Regional Spelling Bee on March 22 at 8pm. Winners will go on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. (Repeats March 25 at 5pm and April 1 at 3pm.)

“My Pet and Me” Family Workshops These workshops feature fun ways for children ages 5-8 and their parents to learn about pet responsibility. Call 210.270.9000 or email arames@klrn.org to register. These free workshops are offered in March on Saturdays at 2 p.m. at two locations: McCreless Branch Library, 1023 Ada St., and Memorial Branch Library, 3222 Culebra. Spend Spring Break with Early ON Geared for kids and for everyone who cares for kids, these events feature a PBS character, free activities and give-aways, music, and more. New Show Features High School Students Using Engineering Concepts
DESIGN SQUAD is coming to KLRN during National Engineers Week 2007. DESIGN SQUAD is a new television series that’s part reality competition, all engineering, and major fun. Visit http://pbskidsgo.org/designsquad to watch a clip from the pilot and meet the cast.

SOUNDIES: A MUSICAL HISTORY HOSTED BY MICHAEL FEINSTEIN
Saturday, March 10 at 9 p.m.  

Before MTV and the age of television, there were Soundies. First appearing in 1941, these three minute black and white films featured artists of the Big Band, Jazz and Swing era. Viewed for a dime through a special machine called a Panoram, a movie jukebox, these forerunners to the music video could be seen in public venues across the U.S.


MORE LOVE AND LOGIC:  HOW TO RAISE KIDS WHO MAKE RESPONSIBLE DECISIONS WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING
Saturday, March 10 at 3 p.m.  

Learn the secrets of raising children who will make responsible decisions when no one else is watching. Father and son parenting gurus, Jim Fay and Dr. Charles Fay, speak about the benefits of raising children the "Love and Logic" way. NOVA: MYSTERY OF THE MEGAFLOOD
Tuesday, March 20 at 8 p.m. 

With the help of stunningly realistic animation, NOVA takes viewers back to the Ice Age to reveal what happened when an ice dam broke, unleashing a titanic flood that swept herds of woolly mammoth and everything else.


THROUGH DEAF EYES
Wednesday, March 21 at 9 p.m.

"Through Deaf Eyes" explores nearly 200 years of deaf life in America, and presents the shared experiences of American history -- family life, education, work and community connections -- from the perspective of deaf citizens.


JOURNEY TO PLANET EARTH: STATE OF THE OCEAN'S ANIMALS
Wednesday, March 28 at 8 p.m.

Matt Damon returns to PBS for his fourth season as the host and narrator of television's only continuing science and nature series focusing on the environment. "State of the Ocean's Animals" features case studies in the Pacific Northwest (salmon, sea otters, orcas), New England (coastal fisheries and cod), Brittany (coastal fisheries), Portugal (the history of cod extinction), Florida (sea level rise and its effect on turtles), the Antarctic (penguins), China and Vietnam (fish farms), the Caribbean (coral reefs) and Africa (whales and coastal fisheries).
