Helen Darling was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. She has a degree in kinesiology with a teaching certificate from Pennsylvania State University. Darling leverages her college degree in instructional teaching to write books that teach new principles while reinforcing the fundamentals, and uses her creativity to help children learn in a fun, creative way. Darling was an outstanding athlete at Penn State where her hard work and determination landed her in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) 2000 draft
being picked up by the Cleveland Rockers. She played in Cleveland four years, sitting out one year to give
birth to her triplets. Darling returned one year after giving birth to her triplets.
May 2009 will be Darling’s 9th season in the WNBA and her 3rd consecutive season with the San Antonio Silver Stars. In the
nine years playing in the WNBA, Darling has been very active in the community. She is a two-time winner of the WNBA community
assist award. While in Cleveland, she was a spokesperson for the March of Dimes,and is currently the Silver Stars’ Read-To-Achieve spokesperson in San Antonio. Darling is an advocate for literacy. She travels to schools reading and speaking to children about
the importance of reading.
