PBS Kids Raising Readers
The PBS Kids Raising Readers initiative ( funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Ready To Learn grant) uses a 360º approach to reach children (ages2-8) and their caregivers and teachers at home, in school and in the neighborhood. Over the next five years, the PBS Raising Readers team will be
in 20 different cities nationwide, working with local partners and community leaders to determine the best ways to reach and connect to families. San Antonio has been selected as one of the first five PBS Kids Raising Readers sites from across the country. KLRN and its many community partners will be working with PBS and CPB as new television programs and resources that help young children build strong pre-reading and reading skills are developed. For more information, contact Lisa McGrath at 210.270.9000, ext. 2254

PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest
Calling young authors! The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest kicks off January 27, 2010. Formerly the Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest, this year’s contest has a new name, but the purpose is the same--to encourage Kinder through Third grade children in communities across the country to explore the power of creativity by writing and illustrating their own stories. KLRN’s local contest is sponsored by H-E-B, with additional support provided by the
Nathalie and Gladys Dalkowitz Charitable Trust
.
You can pick up an entry form at participating H-E-B stores (beginning in mid-February) or download one now by clicking here.

THE NATIONAL PARKS UNTOLD STORIES PROJECT:
The Untold Stories project brings to light stories focusing on the role of African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans in the creation and protection of individual parks. Five original short films were created, and one of those films is about the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. Click here to watch the film.
