Fresh Cut 2008

Rules and Guidelines

Fresh Cut is a one-hour documentary that will feature high school students' work from the KLRN viewing area. Eligible students must be currently enrolled in a high school in the KLRN viewing area. Please review all rules and guidelines before submitting your work.

2008 Rules

1) Submission Deadline: Wednesday, March 28, 2008. No exceptions will be made for entries beyond
that date. Early submissions are encouraged.

2) Eligible pieces must be part of a school-related project from the fall 2007 or spring 2008 semester and submitted through the school. Eligible students must be currently enrolled in a high school in the
KLRN viewing area.

3) We encourage teachers to screen work and submit only the best productions. Although KLRN aims to include at least one video from each school/district that submits student work, quality issues or other timing constraints may not allow for equal time for all schools and districts.More than one submission from each school/district may be included.

4) Videos should be kept to a maximum of 7 minutes in length. Longer submissions may be reviewed for inclusion in the program after all the other submission meeting the 7 minute maximum time allotment have been screened and considered. Selected pieces may be shown in their entirety or only a portion may be shown during the program. Videos will be available for streaming via the KLRN website in their entirety.

5) Please limit all video submissions to one tape per school (combine submissions onto one tape).

6) All submissions must include an official Submission Form, available on the Fresh Cut webpage at www.klrn.org/FreshCut.

7) Teachers are encouraged to ask students to film themselves working on their projects. This footage may be included in the documentary as additional footage, according to the director of the program. KLRN may contact schools for additional footage for Fresh Cut.

8) KLRN may begin scheduling interviews immediately after entries have been judged. Judging will occur at the beginning of April 2008. Tentative broadcast date is scheduled for May 2008 (date and time TBA).

9) Fresh Cut accepted pieces will be made available on the Fresh Cut webpage at www.klrn.org/FreshCut.

10) A notice will be sent to all teachers submitting student regarding selected and non-selected student pieces after judging and prior to the Fresh Cut air date.

11) Video pieces should not include any music or video footage used without permission.
Teachers are asked to prescreen videos to ensure rights are secured.
Submissions containing copyrighted materials without permissions will not be accepted.
To ensure acceptance, use music from the public domain. Such as titles from www.classicalarchives.com or www.freemusic.com

All conditions of the Fresh Cut production are subject to change.

2008 Guidelines

Pieces should be about five minutes in length and submitted on broadcast acceptable formats such as DVD, DVCAM and MiniDV. Videos can be a maximum of 7- minutes long. Special consideration may be given to longer videos only after those videos that meet the 7- minute limit are judged.

Entries must be a class or class-related project from the fall 2007 or spring 2008 semesters and must be submitted through the student's current high school. A Submission Form must be included with each entry.

Early submissions are encouraged. The deadline to submit a piece of work is Wednesday, March 28, 2008.
No entries received by KLRN after that date will be accepted.

What happens after I submit my entry?

Each piece is screened several times by a panel including the show producers for content and style. Pieces are graded individually.

The chosen works will be featured on KLRN in a one-hour documentary. The program may include interviews with the student creators and their teachers. All selected schools will be notified prior to the broadcast date.
